Cingular name to be dropped; AT&T name to return

Cingular Wireless, a brand name with billions in it, will no longer be after the recent AT&T-Bellsough merger was approved earlier this week.
All Cingular branding will be
re-named to the AT&T brand so that AT&T's apparent confidence in its brand name can be used across its entire company as a single brand. Why not "AT&T Cingular", folks?
I'll say this -- the "AT&T Wireless" brand has nothing but bad vibes across the country. Ask a former customer of the "brand" about this.

1. Well, it won't be an instant switch most likely - probably a period of transition with an "AT&T/Cingular" monicker. Then the eventual phase-out of Cingular.
How will the average subscriber perceive this, though? Cingular forced AT&T customers to buy new handsets, new sim cards and pay a $26 "migration fee" for the privelage of becoming Cingular customers. Now, they're going to be AT&T customers once again. Will there be bitterness resulting from this? Will the average consumer be wondering why they had to buy new sim cards, handsets and pay migration fees when, in the end, they will still be AT&T customers?
Of course they won't have to pay anything or buy anything new this time if they don't want to, but still. I can see this happening unless there's a pretty good promotional campaign to temper it.
